The Season of Change!

Hello, Fall Season!

Fall is a season of changes and migration. Have you noticed the colors changing around you? Have you felt the drop in temperature? Or even added layers for your daily outfit?

This fall, we embark on a new adventure. We began by following the lives of salmon and the migration of birds. These small yet incredible creatures have sparked curiosity in children, prompting them to ask about the importance of salmon and their journey back to the Capilano River Hatchery. They have also wondered why animals travel from one continent to another, from colder climates to warmer ones. These lessons allow us to connect with the rhythm of nature.

As the season unfolds, we will continue to investigate outdoors. We will be curious about nature. Children will come home with stories, feel inspired and be grateful for the natural world.

We invite you to join us on this journey of exploration.

Here are simple ways to connect with what we have learned:

Revisit the Capilano River Salmon Hatchery. Watch as Coho salmon attempt the stairs back to the hatchery. This showcases their incredible journey and their strength to jump upstream.

Identify birds in your backyard: Observe the birds that frequent your backyard. Describe their characteristics. Make sure to notice the size, feather colour, and beak shapes. If they stay long enough, listen closely to their sounds.
